Hidden ball trick?

The Marlins pulled it off against the D-Backs today. I can't believe that still works.

What's even more hilarious is that Bob Melvin actually tried to DISPUTE the call. How much more clarity do you need? Lowell has ball in hand. Player is off bag, STANDING. Not moving. Lowell tags player. Shows ball to ump. Ump calls him out. Play over.

one thing to keep in mind, and although i didn't see the play i can't argue its validity, however while pulling off the hidden ball trick, if the pitcher steps on the mound, it's a balk, it is illegal for a pitcher to act like he has the ball and (for lack of a better term) mount the mound.

But like i said, i didn't see it, so not sure if that was what Melvin was arguing, but still an interesting baseball fact.
