On being thankful for what I've got
Kind of a crazy week:1) Classmate of mine from high school (age 25) passed away suddenly this past weekend. They think it was a heart attack. (FYI, my high school class was 39 people.)
2) Another classmate of mine from high school, a girl I grew up with (carpools and all the holiday parties and the whole shebang), was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis recently.
3) Freshman and sophomore year roommate from college (Tom, all you Claremont folks) was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and just got out of surgery this morning. Email from his sis just now:
The pathology came back as glioblastoma, which is probably one of the worst possible cancers it could have been. There is no cure, only palliative treatment (make him comfortable). There will be radiation and chemotherapy treatments slated in the future. I am hopeful for the miracle, but the reality is that less than 50% are alive after one year and it drops exponentially thereafter. So we are looking at quality rather than quantity with the remaining time that we have.Good Lord, and here I was complaining about the sinus problems I've been having lately.
